What is Cancer?
Cancer, in layman's terms is a disease in which a group of cells exhibits one of three properties... growth beyond the confined normal limits of it cellular structure, invasion of adjecent cells, causing their destruction, or travelling to other areas of the body via blood or lymph. What Causes Cancer?
Almost all cancers are caused by anomalies in the genetic material of the affected cells. These abnormalities can be hereditary, or caused through random errors in cell replication, or by exterior sources which are carcinogens. Read more on the causes of cancer.
Types of Cancers
Cancer can attack almost any part of the human body. The ones we hear about most often affect the lungs, skin, blood (leukemia) and breasts. Cancer also attacks bones, eyes, the brain and all soft tissue.
What Treatment Methods Are There?
Depending on the form and location of the cancers, the treatments can take the form of surgery, drugs (chemotherapy) or radiation.
